The big advantage to a paid account for music use is mobile play via PlexAmp. The free account should be fine for access over wifi. There is a lifetime pass, which is currently priced at $120 (which is three years of the subscription pass). That's what I purchased, and it's been working great.<br />

Plex lets you give star ratings to tracks, albums, and artists. Then you can use these ratings in filters for building dynamic playlists. I tend to mostly rate songs, but do what works best for you.<br />

My rating system is:<br />
* Zero = not rated<br />
* One = I never want to hear this song<br />
* Two = I'm okay hearing this, but not in high rotation<br />
* Three = I like this and want it in my "usual" rotation<br />
* Four and Five = This is a favorite that I want to find again quickly<br />

Then I have a dynamic play list of everything I've rated 3 or higher, which is my kind of "default mix" of music I like.<br />

Plex lets you filter by a huge array of music properties, and save those filters as auto-updating playlists. It's not intuitive how to find this though. What you want to do is go to the ''Music'' tab (not the ''Playlist'' tab as you might think) and in the dropdown under ''All'' you should see an option labeled ''Advanced Filters'' (or ''Custom Filters'', depending on the version). Here you can filter by things like genre tags or ratings. When you're done, there's a ''Save As'' button; you'll want to save it as a ''Smart Playlist''<br />
